Piranha Helps Rhode Island Recycle

Award-winning motion graphics, design, and VFX house, Piranha recently completed work on a 30 second commercial for the state of Rhode Island’s recycling program. Originally conceived and storyboarded by their client as a 2d motion graphics spot, the creative team at Piranha really wanted to push the concept further and proposed the creation of a stylized 3d world RIR03(reminiscent of the Little Prince storybook).  With a production schedule of about 3 weeks the team at Piranha used 3ds Max 2012 to previs and produce the continuous camera move piece that features a lush green little world with growing plants made from various recyclable items and kaleidoscopic arrangements of other plastic and metal recyclable bottle and cans.

RIR04Rigs were built to control the growing of the plastic container plants and to provide automatic secondary motion.  The resulting geometry was cached out using unreleased software  called Cache Machine (A&G Tool Company),  which allowed easier placement of the plants and offset of animation.  Particle flow was used to fill the sky with tumbling items that fall neatly into one of three recycling containers.  All shaders, lighting and rendering were done using V-Ray from Chaos Group.  Piranha’s creative director Rob Sabatini  “With a small team of artists RIR05we were able to escalate the client’s product and expectations”
