About me:

Like a lot of VFX Artists I was obsessed with building things at a young age, Lego Technic seems to be a staple for us 3D geeks. I’ve always liked to know how things work and I loved making things. Obviously being a geek it didn’t take me long to get hold of a computer, and when a friend of mine introduced me to 3D Studio Viz (a cut down version of Max) I was hooked.shard_01

I did everything I could to improve my skills, finding an awesome 3dsmax community over at maxforums.org was a huge help at the time, the people there give fantastic constructive criticism. 12 years later the place is still going strong.

What I do:

A lot artists who got their start with 3dsmax tend to be generalists. I put myself in that category, but due to my Architectural Background I have an affinity for lighting shading, and texturing, which is an area that I specialize in. I often use Maya or Softimage for lighting and shading. but I’ll find myself back in Max for building things.  The modifier stack and it’s poly modelling tools are so powerful and I think it’s UV tools are also second to non.

In addition to the above I also work on set as a VFX supervisor and then back in the studio as 3D lead. I find being on set can be pretty fast paced most of the time and I enjoy getting stuck in and doing the best I can to make our lives easier back in the studio.

Working at some smaller studios has helped me expand my skillset, I picked up 3D Tracking a few years ago and I absolutely love doing that. I’m also building a HDR library that I will hopefully be making available soon.
