Autodesk’s CAVE Conference and Autodesk University in Vegas 2013

While some of you may have heard of Autodesk University (AU), many of you who don’t work in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) sectors and use 3ds Max in the Media and Entertainment (M&E) fields may not have.  AU has been Autodesk’s big yearly conference and has traditionally been heavily biased towards attendees from the AEC markets and hence had little to appeal to those of us on the M&E side off things.  Recently Autodesk has been making a concerted effort to expand AU’s focus to include more M&E content.  This year is no different.  In fact they have a relatively new mini conference that starts right before and overlaps AU.  At least a couple New Yorkers, Joe Gunn and Kim Lee will be speaking/teaching again at this coming AU/CAVE in Las Vegas December 1-5, 2013.  Joe Gunn’s class is titled “Unleashing MassFX: The Art of Destruction” and Kim Lee’s class is “From Digital to Physical: Making of the Hyperspace Madness Trilobot”

If the 5 keynote speakers lined up for CAVE are any indication, it should be an interesting conference pushing beyond the already expected how-to software focus and bringing the conceptual design/artistic aspect as well as some levity.  The five keynote speakers are:

syd

Syd Mead – one of the most influential Concept Artists and Designers of our time

neil

Neil Gaiman – award winning author of Stardust, American Gods & Sandman

angelo

Angelo Sotira – CEO of deviantART, the world’s largest online community for artists and art enthusiasts

john_c

John Cleese – versatile comedic actor and a leading motivator

lorne

Lorne Lanning – co-founder of the Oddworld game series
