So our next event is coming soon and will be focused on taking a look at the latest release of 3ds max 2013. In advance of this event we’re planning to post our own survey to see what you guys think of the new version and get a sense of what versions of 3ds max you are using if not 2013. In preparation for this survey I took a look at the reported results of Autodesk’s own survey over at the Area.  It will be interesting to see how the results of our survey will compare. We will be asking a few more specific questions than the Autodesk survey but below is an excerpt of Ken Pimentel’s post (click the Area link above to read the full post).

Keep an eye out for our survey which should be up on the main page before the weekend and we look forward to everyone’s input. For local members who attend the events and hence have access to the private area, feel free to continue this discussion there.

Overall Stability
90% said it was average or above, 56% said it was above average. 93% felt that stability was the same or better than prior releases, 39% said it was better.

Viewport Performance
82% said it was average or above, 49% said it was above average. 88% said it was same/better than prior releases, 57% said it was better.

General App Performance
93% said it was average or above, 43% said it was above average. 93% said it was same/better than prior releases, 50% said it was better.

UI Ease of Use
88% said it was average or above, 51% said it was above average. 96% said it was same/better than prior releases, 43% said it was better.

Interoperability
93% said it was average or above, 62% said it was above average. 98% said it was same/better than prior releases, 51% said it was better.

What did beta users like the most?
These were things that the majority of beta users said were a good reason to upgrade.

Nitrous particle speed improvements (check it out, you’ll see significant improvements here)
Nitrous IBL, DOF, Bokeh, Clay improvements

    Bokeh fx on your particles in the viewport. Really…why.
    Who uses Iray anyway…
